International Disability Independence and Support
The International Disability Independence and Support program, sometimes called the I.D.I.S initiative, is a government-run program created to help support disabled people around Demrefor. Originally started by the Tassatala government in Aurn’la Ann in the early 11,200’s, the program was quickly adopted by the rest of the International Alliance due to it’s positive effects on both Tassatala’s gross national happiness and economy.
The main focus of the program is to provide income and support to those with disabilities, both temporary and permanent, and personalised care plans are created for each individual receiving support. It also provides funding for necessities and aids such as wheelchairs, fold-able beds, hoists, adaptive cutlery, and disability-friendly clothing. They also help with house renovations such as ramps or stand-up bars to make accessibility around the home easier for individuals.
Though they provide support, a main goal of the I.D.I.S is to make sure that those they provide for are able to remain as independent as they can or want to be.
The I.D.I.S is often called upon by other programs, such as the E.D.R and Kamaki Town, to help provide support to those in need. They also work with the I.H.A to assess the needs of applicants.
There is also a program in place within the I.D.I.S called the Aquatics Land Adaption Assistance program (or the A.L.A.A). Though they are not technically disabled, many people from aquatic races require assistance or aids when on land, such as wheelchairs (for those who cannot walk at all), ramps replacing stairs (for those with serpentine bodies and no legs), or places to sleep where they can submerge themselves in clean water (for those with sensitive skin or gills). The I.D.I.S has a program in place specifically to fund these necessities and aid in aquatics adjustments to land-dwelling life.
