Klatch
The “Klatch” religion is the Sentient-given name for an otherwise nameless cultural belief system practised by Mystics. The Mystics who live by this religion don’t mind having the Klatch term assigned to them by Sentients, though they rarely use it themselves.
Though Klatch is a religion practised by several different Mystic races, there is surprisingly little known about it as it is a belief system that is never actively taught, but learnt over a lifetime of living in a shared space with others of the same beliefs. It originated with the goblin people but is an open religion by nature —a way of life that others are welcome to adopt as they live amongst a culture that practises it— and so has spread amongst other Mystics such as orcs, minotaurs, and some gnolls.
The most commonly known fact about the Klatch religion is that they worship a god called Gamahi. This god is believed to be the spirit of an ancient goblin who spent their mortal life digging out the cave systems within Demrefor for their decedents to live within.
The religion has a heavy emphasis on family and immediate community. Those that practice Klatch live in large colonies that number upwards of 500 members; these colonies are considered their families, and they believe that their family holds priority over everyone and everything else in the world. It is rare for a member of a colony to be abandoned or banished; forgiveness and loyalty are much more common. Even if a member of a colony leaves to travel or join another colony, they will remain loyal to their old colony.
Because they value their immediate community and family more than anything else, it is not uncommon for them to view outsiders as being slightly lower on the social ladder. Though they are generally friendly peoples who do not go out of their way to be cruel, Klatch people rarely have issues with the death of those outside of their families. By Klatch social law, killing an outsider is not murder, and eating an outsider is not cannibalism; those are crimes that can only be committed against colony members. Because of this, the religion has a poor reputation amongst most Sentients.
Money is worth nothing to those living within the Klatch religion; but time, knowledge, and art are highly valued and often traded.
