Aura Sensing
Aura sensing is the act of detecting magic that has recently been used. It is a natural-born attunement that is near-impossible to learn without inheriting it, with an aura sensor being able to experience magic through one of their five senses as a natural part of their everyday world. Each aura sensor will only perceive magic through one sense, and there are no documented cases of aura sensors using two of their senses to detect magic.
The name “aura sensor” is an old, slightly-inaccurate, term that comes from those who were able to see magic; when a spell was cast, visual aura sensors would witness the magic as a colourful mist or light-like aura in the air. Despite not being completely accurate to ever experience by people with aura sensing abilities, it has been the preferred term since before the founding of the International Alliance by the majority of aura sensors regardless of how their abilities manifest.
Whatever sense they use to detect magic, aura sensors are able to tell the difference between different types of magic through unique sensory experiences and most will learn how to identify the common forms of magic at a young age just through exposure.
Some aura sensors find their abilities overstimulating, especially those in communities with a high use of magic, though there are adaptions that can help them cope and lessen the intensity of the stimulation. Many aura sensors, due to the risk of becoming overwhelmed, choose to avoid learning how to cast magic, themselves.
They are highly desired workers in many careers, ranging from helping enchanters know when their wares need recharging; to medical settings to help detect when an ailment is of a magical origin; to preventing cheating while gambling; to acting as guides for explorers out in the wilderness to check for magical traps or creatures that could be harmful.
