Word Weaving
Word weaving is the act of tying magic into words and speech; using one’s own voice as a technique for casting spells. Though there are specific incantations that can be repeated word-for-word, the most important part of word weaving is intent; a spell cannot be cast without actually breathing it into existence with one’s will, and so repeating a spell without actually believing in it or wishing for its affect to be true will prevent the magic from taking affect.
Likewise, spells can be cast without repeating recorded incantations. A speech to motivate one’s fellows, for example, can be imbued with magic to ease their pains and lift their spirits, as long as true intent for the spell’s affect from the word weaver is willed.
Though word weaving can be used to cast any form of magic, ranging from prophecy to war spells, a majority of word weavers will use their magic to charm people or change emotions. Positively, therapists or caretakers may use word weaving to lessen harsh emotions or sooth clients. Less positively, scam artists or abusers may use these powers to alter people’s perceptions and memories.
Though basic word weaving is relatively easy to pick up, due to the simplicity of speaking the incantations needed to practice it, it is known as a rather hard casting technique to master due to the strength of will needed to make the spells cast powerful enough to compare to other techniques. It is for this reason that it is often passed over in favour of other techniques; with only a small, niche community of spell-casters choosing to pursue word weaving.
It is also to be noted that spells cast with sign language are considered a form of word weaving.
