Turtle-Sheller
Turtle-shellers, sometimes known in the Rendi as “murder hermits,” are crab-like crustaceans that feed mainly on turtles and tortoises, though they may also feed on small lizards or fish if the opportunity arises. They feed on the soft tissue of their meal before, similar to their hermit crab cousins, slipping into the shell for protection against their own predators. This behaviour is what earned them their name.
Turtle-shellers are found all over Demrefor, in both fresh and salt waters. It is generally believed they originated along the coastlines of Yali, though there is no proof that this is true.
They are a delicacy among the Eala races, often used in expensive dishes, but are considered an almost-inedible pest among aquatics.
