Ash-Eater
The ash-eaters are a sapient quadrupedal dragon race known to live on Keos Leesa. Related to the rock-burrowers and mud-waddlers, they make their societies in dry and dusty environments, usually areas with tightly-compacted dirt or a covering of volcanic ash. Despite the translation of their names from their native language to International, they do not actually eat ash and primarily feed on small lizards and ground birds.
About the size of the average house-cat, these hardy dragons are covered in a variety of horns and spines that they use to keep themselves safe from predators. Their leathery skin comes in a variety of hues, though they are usually dark in colour in order to help blend in with their environments.
They are born in nests of 1-3 hatchlings per clutch, with most newborns being an off-grey colour with none of their natural spines yet grown in. Parents rely on camouflage to protect their young; covering them in the dust of their homes to keep them hidden from dangers while they are away. As ash-eaters develop, their leathery skin darkens into their adult colouration and their defences grow in.
Their culture is known for being hardworking and serious, and other sapient draconic races often talk about their helpful and caring attitudes. They are somewhat frequent travellers to I’reka, and many make their home in the Torat wasteland alongside the zokex.
