Fayrie
The fayrie is a domestic dragon mount originating from the Gallamor and best-suited for warm climates with uneven and hilly landscapes. These dragons were originally bred as small lap-companions able to detect magic with their specialist compound eyes, of which are able to view spectrums of light and energy not usually visible to Sentient people.
Though they were originally no larger than a cat, over time they have slowly been bred larger and are now able to be ridden by the Gallamor’s native felinic people; very few lap breeds of fayrie still exist, though those that do are popular pets amongst nobles due to their personable and loyal natures. The rarer small breeds of fayries are still able to fly and use their prehensile tails for climbing; while the more common mount breeds have wings and tails that are mostly vestigial.
Because of their sensitive eyes they prefer to avoid the daylight and are best-suited for nocturnal or indoor riding. Most people who use fayrie’s for overnight travel choose to ride in minimal artificial lighting, and trust that the animal will safely guide them over any obstacles , physical or magical, they encounter. Many even refuse to use any sort of torch or candle while riding and instead allow their own vision to adjust to the natural light levels of the moonlight and the fayrie’s bioluminescent antennae.
Alongside their specialist eyes and friendly personalities, fayries produce a spider-like silk from their nostrils. Originally, in their more wild ancestors, this was used to make nests and catch small prey, though in domestic breeds it can be harvested and made into glue.
