Skayshek

The skayshek dragon is a feral dragon species that lives in the jungles of Das. One of the few creatures on the islands that are smaller than the Sentient dassen race, an adult skayshek dragon averages at about half a meter in length from their front-most shoulders to the start of their tails.

With four pairs of legs, eight legs total, these lizard-like dragons have long fleshy membranes between their limbs that allow them to leap from trees and glide to lower branches great distances away. They have a sail-like frill running down from their forehead to the middle of their back that they use to help direct their movements while in their air. They also have a long, flexible tail with a membrane attaching to their back set of legs that they use to catch air like a parachute; lifting or lowering their tail to catch different amounts of air in order to control the speed of their descent.

Though mostly various shades of brown, they have bright red spots along their backs that indicate to predators that they are poisonous. They also have a singular red spot on the tip of their dark blue tongues that they use in their mating displays.

Their worst predators are gorzella birds, as the birds rinse their prey off in bodies of water; removing the poison from a skayshek’s skin so they can safely eat them. They are also often eaten by large fish who are too stupid to realise they are poisonous.

Their diet consists mainly of other animal’s droppings; because of this, skayshek are inclined to make their homes and lay their eggs on the underside of birds’ nests, in the tangles where the birds can’t find them. From here, they are able to forage on any droppings that are ejected over the side of the nest.
