Dragonscale Tree
Dragonscale trees are a rare-but-valuable plant that only grows in iron-rich soil. It is a tree known for having leafs that grow so strong and thick that almost no animals can penetrate them. These leafs grow in a layered canopy with a rounded shape that makes the tree look like it is draped in a cloth made of dragon’s scales. This appearance is what earnt the plant its name.
The dragonscale leafs are a sturdy, useful material. When woven together dragonscale leafs are able to act as a replacement for leather in clothing and armour, without the extra steps of tanning needed to prepare a hide for the same uses.
Due to the high-iron environment the plant thrives in, the plant is known to absorb iron and have traces of metal within its bark and wood. This wood is the strongest known wood on Demrefor and was once a popular building material to to its weight-baring capabilities, its rot and fire resistance, and its appealing naturally metallic sheen.
However, the demand for the valuable wood and leafs led to the trees almost going extinct, and it is now illegal in most countries to harvest dragonscale trees due to their current rarity.
