Dream Whispering

Dream whispering is a magic closely related to dream walking. Though in modern magical convention these two magics are considered separate abilities due to their differing uses, there are some people, especially those within the Old Learners branch of the Starku religion, that believe the two magics are actually one-in-the same; this practice of dream whispering and walking combined is known as dream mastery, and has its own social connotations and common practises.

Dream whispering is, most commonly, a learnt skill that someone must actively decide to refine and use. It is very rare that someone is born with the knowledge to use the magic, though some people find the magic easier to use than others and have a natural affinity for it.

They have the ability to modify another person’s dreams; by channelling their magic, they are able to put concepts, ideas, and images into someone else’s head while they are asleep in order to influence what they see. However, a dream whisperer cannot themselves see what is being dreamt about, and has to be confident that the strength of their magic will have the desired affect.

In order to modify a person’s dreams, they must remain awake while the person they wish to influence sleeps. They then must cast their magic in an active state. The most commonly used form of casting is the one the one that earnt them their name; quietly whispering incantations over the sleeping person in order to imbue their mind with magical visions.

There are many uses for dream whispering magic that have been documented, ranging from the treatment of PTSD, to keeping infants asleep, to psychological torture during times of war.
